Austin Burlesque Shows & Venues

Austin has fully embraced burlesque and has become one of the best places in the nation to enjoy the fun, sexy art form.  Austin burlesque performances capture the city’s passionate spirit with lively music, comedic interludes, and dazzling costumes.  Venues throughout the city host burlesque showcases, variety shows, and festivals all year long.

The US Art Authority, an art and performance space in Central Austin, regularly hosts themed burlesque shows to benefit local non-profit organizations.  Past events include “Animalesque,” an animal themed burlesque show benefiting Austin Pets Alive and a Valentines Day’s “Burlesque for Peace” show.   Dr. Sketchy, an international “anti-art school” hosts monthly drawing events featuring live music, prizes and burlesque models posing for lucky spectators and artists.

Downtown comedy club Esther’s Follies is also a great place to enjoy burlesque.  In the past, Esther’s Follies has hosted South by Southwest showcases featuring Austin’s sexiest burlesque performers and troupes.  Esther’s Follies often incorporates music, theatrical, and comedic performances into their burlesque events.  The Blue Theatre, an east Austin performance space and art gallery, also hosts burlesque-themed variety shows that include art, music, and improvisational performances.

ND at 501 studios, located just east of downtown Austin, has become the go-to venue for large burlesque performances and festivals.  The venue recently hosted the 3rd annual Texas Burlesque Festival, a three-day event celebrating Texas cabaret, vaudeville, and burlesque.  The three-day celebration showcases top burlesque performers from all over the country, industry discussions, competitions, pinup merchandise from local and national burlesque shops, and striptease workshops.
